If there is one thing I’ve learned, both in life and in business, it’s that you have got to roll with the punches. When I arrived in Texas earlier this spring to begin work on the Ballet Folklorico documentary project, I envisioned it happening in a very specific way. However, I did not anticipate the resistance I encountered from some members of the community when I arrived and, once I realized the support for my project would be a little harder to attain, my vision shifted. As you know from previous posts, my original intention was to produce a single full-length documentary film. I have always maintained that I was set upon this path by a much higher power than myself, so when inspiration to take the project in a different direction hit, I couldn’t ignore it!
For me, one of the most fascinating aspects of the story of the first Ballet Folklorico group in Victoria, TX has always been how the humble beginnings led to a strong foundation that has endured and has even extended beyond the county lines. As more people continued sharing their personal experiences with me, I quickly realized that producing just a single documentary film would be a huge disservice to the group’s true impact. For that reason, I am excited to announce this project will now be an ongoing documentary series called “Ballet Folklorico Cuicuilco“.
This documentary series will explore the group’s early history and take viewers on a journey showing how its members have branched out to spread the art, heritage, and celebration that is the Ballet Folklorico. Not only will I take a look at the way it has endured in Victoria, decades after its creation, I will also be tracing the impact its members have had throughout Texas and beyond! Based on the information I’ve gathered so far, the revelations are stunning and fill me with a sense of pride and astonishment to know that my own family has been such a big part of it all.
By dividing the larger story into individual episodes, I will have the ability to share more stories in greater detail, paint a much clearer picture of the story, and publish content sooner and more frequently. All episodes will be available online for free because this is a story that needs to be shared. Since this will be an ongoing series, episodes will be divided into periods of time and continued production will be based on the resources I have available to me. From the very beginning I have acknowledged that the size and scope of this documentary project would be based on the amount of support I manage to gain along the way.
Since this is an ongoing project, anyone interested in supporting the project along the way can easily make a contribution right here on my website. To all those individuals who have already donated, I want to thank you for believing in this project enough to me get this far. There is still a long way to go, but I’m in for the long haul!
Stay tuned for more details on upcoming episodes that will reveal the deep rooted foundation from which so many branches can be traced back to!
